Susan Powell

Susan Powell views her marketing role in her father’s practice as an opportunity to cultivate one-on-one relationships with individual clients. In any given week, one might find her reaching out to clients who are experiencing a milestone event: a birthday, the birth of a child, and sometimes sadly, the loss of a loved one. “We strengthen our community by being attuned to what is going on in our clients’ lives,” she explains.
Susan organizes the firm’s informational seminars and “Q&A sessions” on topics of personal finance. The objective is to allow existing clients, as well as those considering the firm’s services, to meet with David and his team in a relaxed, no-obligation environment, and have their questions answered.
Of course, Susan also manages the firm’s social media accounts and works closely with media outlets on advertising and other traditional brand building activities. Prior to joining David’s practice, Susan worked in fundraising, event management and marketing at Sandhills School and at Columbia College. Susan also oversaw the re-branding of the Happy Café in Columbia. She translated her understanding of marketing and her relationship-building talent to her father’s practice. What appeals to her most about her role is the combination of people skills and teamwork the position demands.
Susan earned her undergraduate degree in religious studies at Rhodes College. She has completed extensive coursework in elementary education and has taught fifth grade in both Tennessee and in South Carolina, at the Hammond School. In her free time, she enjoys reading, cooking and spending time with family and friends.
She and her husband, John, reside in Columbia with their two children.
